Huglon Demands Trade Concessions
The Empire’s northern neighbor, the Confederated Kingdom of Huglon, has thrown decades of Imperial goodwill away with demands that would disadvantage Imperial traders within Huglon territory. King-Elect Laurens I of Huglon has pursued closer ties with his northern neighbors, including Saladura and even flouting the embargo against the Brena League. Viceroy von Stettin is drawing up proposals for retaliatory action.
Anti-Canonian Crackdown in Messara
At the behest of Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Oscine, the court of Messara has ordered a moratorium on the construction of new edifices dedicated to the Canon of Virtues. Several leading Canonians have been arrested and had their lands confiscated; after conference with the Archbishop, the public nuisance charges have been dropped, but the land has been incorporated into King Baudrain’s personal demesne. Though broadly popular in Messara, this move runs counter to the policy of Kaiser Anselm, who has long courted the support of the Canonians.
Peasant Revolt in Transcouler
An ungrateful rabble rose against House Balaur, citing as grievances their supposedly high taxes and the practice of permanent conscription. In a fabulous, if unrestrained, show of power, Marchionesse Erzsébet let the Red Host loose on the rebels. The resulting widespread destruction is likely to cow the commoners for another generation. Now the hunt is on for the foreign or leveller agitators believed to have fomented the trouble among otherwise loyal subjects.
Public Health Report
The Kaiser was seen to stand abruptly and leave an important meeting. He was not seen again until three days later, when he surfaced at a hunting lodge outside Dastrux City. We are assured he is hale and he spent the interval coursing game.
