Grand Imperial Campaign Session 005: Gang of Thieves

February 15, 2025

13 Milrynth, 826

The party heard a rumor that a general store had been burgled. The thieves tunneled into the store from the storm tunnels and stole only plates.

Suspecting the work of the goblins, the party suspended their studies and returned to the dungeon.

Taking another exit from the main room, they came to an intersection with a door. The door was jammed shut from the other side with wooden shims, and had a hole at human eye level. Listening, they heard footsteps departing from the other side.

Annais and Oskraks started chopping down the door. Resting for a moment, they heard a door open and close elsewhere nearby. The party panicked and lost their bearings; coming to a door, they opened it with trepidation, finding again the entrance chamber.

Examining the final untried exit from this room, they found a poison needle trap in the lock. Aida was not confident about her ability to disarm the trap.

The party left the dungeon and bought carpentry tools. The merchant assumed they were housebreakers and tried to upsell them on several burglary gadgets.

Returning to the dungeon, they cut a pilot hole and sawed around the lock. They pushed the door open. Coming to another locked door, they tried the same entry procedure. On the other side of this door was a watchpost with a toppled chair and empty bottles.

They called through the door out of the room and made contact with a voice. A gang of human thieves agreed to allow half of the party into the next room to negotiate.

Annais and Oskraks proceeded to the next room, which held an ancient gargoyle being used as a clothesline. A thief leader offered to sell them information about the dungeon. They learned that the goblins are divided into two warring factions. The thieves offered them wine, which they refused, assuming it to be poisoned.

Meanwhile, a crew of thieves returned ostensibly from a job and found themselves stranded in the room with Aida and Gerald. Gerald watched them suspiciously while Aida made conversation. They offered her a part in a grand heist, where she could play the part of a foreign princess and win the friendship of a noble debutante whose jewels the thieves were targetting. Aida failed to impress them with her acting. As they began dressing her up for the part, one of the thieves garotted her with a necklace, and another yelled not to kill the priest.

Gerald leapt to the attack, but he was immediately clubbed into unconsciousness. Aida kicked and shattered a bottle before killing the thief who was binding her. In another few moments, she went down.

Hearing the noise, Annais and Oskraks rushed into the room. The lead thief followed them and backstabbed Annais, who went down. Flying into a rage, Oskraks swept through the room, killing enough thieves that the rest fled.

Oskraks administered first aid and hauled his companions back to the Pink Unicorn.
