Returning to Mettawi Station, Dessa has a vision of entering the apartment to find Gai dismembered and an infinite burning hallway holding a Mandalorian in black armor. She snaps out of it when T3-N1 offers her a plate of rarebit and sourberry soup.
Gai confirms that he has been doing his exercises, and Sahl reports his findings on the Null-class ship. There have been no additional ghost sightings. Teni has continued working undercover. Dessa reports that mother and child settled in well on Ossus.
The group meets with a low-level administrative adjunct for the station, who gives them a modified bounty hunting contract to legitimize their activities.
They find that the salvage company has put out a bounty for the retrieval of the box of grimoires.
Dessa and Teni go to a warehouse complex to inquire about the box. While they are there, the place is robbed by a spacer gang, the Red Serpent; Dessa and Teni are shot.
Meanwhile, Sahl and Gai are investigating the understaffed foundry. They meet with a worker, who contrives to lose a key for them to find. They are interrupted by news of the robbery.
While Dessa and Teni are rushed to hospital and repairs, Sahl investigates the scene. The robbers cut the lock out of a shipping container (this one is blue to the grimoire container’s beige and black), but have not disturbed the contents. This is surprising, because the box is full of furniture which turns out to be stuffed with unlaundered Republic credits.
At night, Teni, Sahl, and Gai break into the foundry to investigate. Teni slices into the computer systems and finds that the company’s financial difficulties stem from huge losses caused by an employee giving unauthorized sweetheart deals to another company. Teni is caught by a pair of security guards, but Sahl and Gai knock them out and the trio make their escape.
